UPDATE: Coolridge Animal Hospital: Iverson, The Sweet Foster Kitten - Turns Out (He)…Is Mama Iris With Two Adorable Kittens - Mama and Babies Will Be Available for Adoption Soon

You may have read my post: Meet Iverson, A Sweet 4-6 Month Old Foster Kitten - Soon To Be Available for Adoption at Coolridge Animal Hospital, Camp Springs, Maryland

I have received an update from Coolridge Animal Hospital:

Update Iverson the rescued 6 month old kitten, turns out is Iris the 6 month old mama. We were able to rescue her 2 kittens which look to be about 6 weeks of age, we are grateful they are safe now, as they wouldn't have made it or had a very happy life out on the streets trying to survive.

These lucky ones are just one story, there are so many Iris's and babies out there on the streets, this is why we strongly believe in spay/neuter of all pets. We can all make a difference.

So with further adieu, here is mama Iris ( 6 months) and her 2 babies, they are identical and laying on each other, which is the reason you only see one.

They will all soon be up for adoption, so if at anytime you are interested just contact us here at Coolridge. We will post more pictures in the upcoming weeks

If you have room in your home and in your heart for Mom Iris or her kittens, please contact:

Stray Senior Dog In Danger At Sanitation Plant Gets Heartwarming Rescue

A senior dog smelt like a sewer and looked even worse when Hope for Paws came to rescue him at a water treatment facility in Los Angeles.

A sanitation plant is an extremely dangerous place for an animal or a human, and the rescue was especially called in to help the dog and given special clearance to do so. When you first see him, he is so dejected and defeated. That’s why it’s so amazing to see a smile come back to his face just from getting a bath and some TLC!

Things are looking up for Mufasa (now renamed Goji). He’s about 8 years old and is currently in foster care with Lionel’s Legacy, a senior dog rescue.

Watch This Video And Fall Otterly In Love With These Adorable Critters

Some animals are known for embodying certain personality traits: Dogs are loyal, lions are brave and foxes are sly. Otters so thoroughly embody love that it’s a wonder they haven’t become the mascot of Valentine's Day sooner.

Consider the following otter facts: Many otters mate for life and sometimes they hold hands while sleeping in the water to avoid drifting apart.

This is intended as a guideline only and should not replace having your hamster evaluated by an experienced small mammal veterinarian. How to Care for Outdoor Cats in Winter

Who are those cats you see outside on cold days? They may be pets whose owners let (or put) them outside.

Or they could be community cats, a group that includes ferals (who are afraid of people) and strays (who've been lost or abandoned). No matter how resourceful these outdoor cats are, they need help surviving winter.

Should Yorkies Be Banned in Miami?

Miami New Times has just released a proposal for the most shocking legislation ever: a law to ban the sale and ownership of the Yorkshire Terrier. In a blog rant, Kyle Munzenrieder claims, "You see, Yorkies' real crime is something no one talks about but everyone hears. They have a strong tendency to never shut up."

Why Stop at Pit Bulls? Miami-Dade Must Ban Yorkies

Miami-Dade County has banned residents from owning pit bulls for more than 25 years, and voters reaffirmed the ban in 2012 with an overwhelming 63 percent vote. Despite controversy surrounding the law, politicians and citizens alike have time and time again shown that Miami is comfortable with breed-specific legalization regarding dogs.

Washington, DC - A Juvenile Has Been Arrested for Theft of Two Kittens at Petco Store: Kittens Remain Missing - $500 Reward for Their Return

A person was arrested Thursday night, but the kittens remain missing.

The cat burglar went into the store on Monday, broke the glass at the “cat adoption” area and let the kittens out of the cage. Two tabby kittens were stolen. They are about 12 weeks old and are brother and sister.

A juvenile male was arrested on Thursday and charged with theft. But he has been playing cat and mouse with the police detectives about the location of the kittens.

The kittens were up for adoption by Last Chance Animal Rescue in Waldorf, Md.

The director, Cindy Sharpley, of Last Chance Animal Rescue said that stolen cats are starting to be a real problem. She said this is the third case of kittens up for adoption in stores that are kidnapped in recent weeks.

But there is hope for a purr-fect ending. Cindy said they had a dog stolen in Alexandria, Va., three months ago. The pup was found safe and sound last week.

“Hopefully they are somewhere with a girlfriend or mother or grandmother -- as a present,” Cindy said. “But people do the strangest things with animals. It's very scary.”

Someone knows where these kittens are now.

You can call the police tip line at 202-727-9099. The rescue is offering a $500 reward for their return.

Meet Rosie, The Annapolis Coast Guard Station Mascot, Who Gets Her Promotion as First Class Dog in the United States Coast Guard

Annapolis, Maryland - At the Coast Guard Station in Annapolis, there are a few things that are guaranteed to happen every day.

The flag will go up, the commander will brief the troops…and to lighten the mood, Rosie will be there keeping an eye on everyone and everything.

“It’s an old tradition, dogs and cats seem to be the pets of sailors.”

Rosie, a beautiful Labrador Retriever is more than a pet, she’s the station mascot, but now, with 10 years of,” dogged service” she’s earned a promotion. She’s been to more of these promotion ceremonies than she’s able to count, so, she leads everyone to the right room.

“Know yee that reposing special trust and the fidelity and abilities of Rosie, I hereby do appoint her a first class dog in the United States Coast Guard.”

Just what are the traits that will lead to a promotion?

“Good for morale, good for the crew, she’s always here, she never has a bad day, a bad attitude, always happy to see everyone no matter what,” said BL1 Jim Abels.

So, here’s the rub…Rosie, bless her heart, now has some of her human colleagues.
“Ha, yes, yes, she outranks me, I do take orders from the dog,” said Petty Officer Brad Bishop.

So swab the deck and give me more treats, that’s an order.

Comparable to enlisted personnel, mascots can move up in rank upon completion of certain qualifications, such as mastering commands and observing the raising of the American Flag.

If you’d like to meet Rosie, the Annapolis Station will have an open house on May 9th.

Need An Electric Dog Fence to Keep Your Dog Contained? Did You Know That You Can Do It Yourself for About $300?: Dog Fence DIY Guides Show You How to Create Your Perfect Pet Containment Fence

Choosing a containment system for your yard is a big and very important decision. Make sure you answer these questions before you purchase one, and do some thorough research into your options. There are lots of electric dog fence systems out there, but not all will work for you, your dog, or your yard. When you pick a great electric fence, you’ll have peace of mind that your beloved dog is safe and sound at home.

Four Smart Reasons to Install an Electric Wired Dog Fence

If you are shopping around for a dog containment solution you have perhaps considering installing a wired electric dog fence similar to Invisible Fences. One of the largest costs associated with a wired dog fence relates to installation. After a little over five years in the industry of dog containment & training and thousands of satisfied customers who have completed  a self-install of their wired dog fence we think you can do it too. Our manuals and dog fence trouble shooting guides are very simple and user friendly and our help line is always willing to go the extra mile.  This is why you need an electronic dog fence now:

Your Dog is a Repeat Offender
If you are known by name by the dog catcher and you have depleted your 401k you need to consider your financial well being as well as the safety of your dog. Many stubborn breeds don’t easily grasp boundaries and their drive for exploration puts their lives and the safety of others at risk

You Cannot Afford a Wood or Chain-link Fence
If your property is significantly large fencing the perimeter may be price prohibitive. If you want your dogs to have the freedom to roam your property without having to worry about their well being a wired fence allows you to have significant coverage at a fraction of the cost of a wood, PVC or chain link fence.

You are Concerned About Liability
In many states you are responsible for the direct and indirect damage caused by your unsupervised dog. This includes damage to cars when they hit your dog, dog bites or destroyed gardens

Your Dog is an Escape Artist
Even with a wood or chain link fence your dog is finding a way out and causing great raucous.  A properly installed wired fence is likely to correct this type of behavior even if you have a training-resistant dog.
