If you're still searching for the love of your life after this Valentine's Day, we're a great place to look! We have many wonderful dogs and cats who can't wait to show you how much you mean to them! And don't forget that through February, you can adopt a selected "Staff Favorite" dog for a reduced adoption fee of $125 (normally $225), which still includes all age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm testing, microchip, and the spay or neuter surgery for your new pet!

Cats are also included in the matchmaking - adoption fees for cats are only $70 (normally $150) and include all age appropriate vaccinations, FIV/FeLV testing, microchip, and the spay or neuter for your new cat. You can also adopt two for a total of only $95!

If anyone is looking for a pocket-sized companion, we also have two adorable hamsters hoping to find a family and even several turtles who are looking for a loving home!

The Story of Fancy, An Adorable Chinese Shar-Pei/Terrier Mix, Found Dying in the Street - Rescued by Good Samaritans - Looking for a Forever Home

If you are following my blog, then you know I share a variety of animal stories. I want to share the story of Fancy, a very special dog, as she is very dear to my heart.

Her story:
June 13, 2014, was a very hot balmy day in Maryland. It was about 3:30 p.m., when I decided to look out of my front door.

As I looked out of the storm door, something caught my eye moving in the grass of the large apartment complex adjacent to my home. I stepped out on the porch to get a closer look, I spotted what looked to be a small dog crawling in the grass. I immediately called for my husband to come. As we walked over, I looked into the face of a sad little dog who looked to be in pain.

I grabbed my phone and called the Prince George's County Animal Shelter. While I was on the phone she continued to crawl further into the street and just laid down. My husband began directing traffic around her. I bend down crying, looking at her little body covered in mange. Her stomach was raw and red from scratching. She looked dehydrated, and hungry. I began talking to her and assuring her that I was not going to leave her. I will never forget her eyes, they were so sad.

Within 30 minutes, she was picked up by Prince George's County Animal Control.

I kept in touch with the animal shelter, getting updates on her condition. She received excellent treatment and was progressing very well.

I spend weeks contacting animal rescues across the country trying to get someone to take her. Pit Bull Mixes are illegal in Prince George's County. She could not be adopted out from the Prince George's County Animal Shelter, and could only be released to a rescue group.

On September 9, 2014, I received an email from the Prince George's County Animal Shelter staff telling me that, Fancy, a named that had given her, would be transferring to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, in Alexandria, VA.

She was being transferred because she would have a better chance of adoption at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. I continued following her progress with them as she was still on medication and doing really well.

I received an email today from a friend, at the Washington Humane Society, Washington, DC.  She was attending their Frisky Business Adoption Event this past Saturday. As she was looking at the dogs, she noticed one that looked familiar (she had seen Fancy's picture constantly posted on my facebook page). She decided to check, and found out that is was Fancy.

I was told that sometimes shelters swap animals, and apparently Fancy was chosen in a swap from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria to the Washington Humane Society.

I am sharing Fancy's story to help get her adopted into a loving forever home. Fancy became the staff's pick in Prince George's County Animal Shelter, and even has a leash with her name on it! All shelters have told me that she is a sweet, adorable little girl that gives out plenty of puppy kisses!

Did I mention she loves belly rubs!

While I am a resident of Prince George's County and it would be illegal for me to adopt Fancy, I will continue to share her story to help her get adopted.

Prince George's County Animal Shelter Participated in a Mock Disaster Exercise, Along with County Police, Fire, Homeland Security, Social Services, and The Red Cross

Last Friday, the Prince George's Animal Management Division staff and volunteers participated in a mock Disaster Exercise, along with County Police, Fire, Homeland Security, Social Services, Red Cross and other entities in a simulation of a flood occurring in two areas of the County.

Two human shelters were set up at Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School, along with two Animal Shelters to house their furry loved ones. What an incredible way to prepare for the unthinkable!

We can't forget those who worked in the field during the mock disaster exercise, standing by to retrieve (stuffed) animals from those victims boarding the busses to head to the shelter at Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School. Shown below are Cate, Ebonie and Victoria and on the right is Simone, who did intake on the animals brought to the temporary shelters.

Meet Fancy, A Sweet Adorable 2-Year-Old Blue Pit Bull Looking for a Forever Home - Do You Have Room in Your Heart and in Your Home for Her? Please Read Her Story! (Pictures)

On June 13, 2014, my husband and I found a dog lying in the street by our home. She looked dehydrated, hungry and her skin looked to have some type of rash, and her stomach was red and raw.

I immediately called animal control while my husband began directing traffic around her, to make sure that no one hit her. We stayed outside with her until animal control arrived.

I have been in constant contact with the shelter checking on her, and getting good reports.

The shelter staff who named her Fancy, told me that she had mange, and received treatment, and is doing well. I was also told that she is a sweet lovable little tail-wagging girl!

In Prince George's County, Maryland, where I live, it is illegal to own a pit bull. She has been at the shelter for almost a month now.  Shelter rules are that pit bulls are not adoptable straight from the shelter. They must be picked up by a rescue first, and then put up for adoption.

1)  You must put in an application for her and be approved.
2)  You MUST be able to pick her up immediately, the same day of spay.
3)  You will pay the $15 for microchipping.
4)   I will pay the $125 to have her spayed.
