Japanese Town Deploys Growling "Monster Wolf" Robots to Scare Away Wild Bears

A town in northern Japan has recently been plagued by a plethora of wild bears, roaming around neighborhoods and petrifying residents. In an attempt to prevent attacks, the town of Takikawa has now installed terrifying robotic wolves to howl at the bears and scare them off, Reuters reports.

The residents of Takikawa, located on the northernmost island of Hokkaido, have been increasingly concerned by the potential of bear attacks, as sightings in the country hit a five-year high, according to national broadcaster NHK. There have been dozens of reported attacks this year, two of them fatal, leading to an emergency government meeting last month to address the issue.

The Maryland Zoo Will Have “Lures” Activated Within the Park to Attract Customers With ‎Pokémon GO Perks

Baltimore, Maryland - The Maryland Zoo is trying to “catch ’em all.” Not Pokémon, but ‎Pokémon GO players.

Between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday, the zoo will have “lures” activated within the park to attract the digital monsters, and the real-life people who are hunting them.

‎Pokémon GO is a new augmented reality phone app that uses GPS to guide users to real-world landmarks for the purpose of collecting the digital cartoon creatures. It’s been downloaded by millions of people, causing Nintendo’s stock to soar.

At “Pokéstops,” players can collect gear to help them catch new monsters and heal injured ones, and they can fight their Pokémon at “gyms” to advance in the game.

The zoo says there are 26 Pokéstops and two gyms within its gates, and is encouraging ‎Pokémon chasers who visit to share the fun by tagging Pokémon screenshots on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with #marylandzoo or @marylandzoo.

Adult admission to the zoo is $18.

Dog Helps Police Catch Car Thief

Stockton – A dog named “Monster” helped officers catch a car thief, Stockton Police say.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. along the 2400 block of Tilden Park. Police say that someone called police to report that a man had just stolen a brand-new Mercedes Benz right off of a cargo truck.

Officer soon arrived at the scene and spotted the car. Police say that the suspected thief – identified as 19-year-old Peter Arquiaga – then ditched the car and ran.

Arquiaga is said to have jumped a few fences to try and get away from police. But, Arquiaga eventually landed into the backyard with Monster. The dog apparently didn’t like Arquiaga’s intrusion and immediately started biting him, police say.

Monster’s owner soon came out and got the dog off of Arquiaga so that officers could take him into custody.

Arquiaga is first being taken to a hospital before he’ll be booked. He is facing stolen auto, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and numerous other traffic charges, police say.
