Pets Allowed - Why Are So Many Animals Now in Places Where They Shouldn’t Be?

What a wonderful time it is for the scammer, the conniver, and the cheat: the underage drinkers who flash fake I.D.s, the able-bodied adults who drive cars with handicapped license plates, the parents who use a phony address so that their child can attend a more desirable public school, the customers with eleven items who stand in the express lane. The latest group to bend the law is pet owners.

Lawrence Police Officer Finds 3-Week-Old Pup in Pocket of Suspected Drug Dealer

A suspected drug dealer placed under arrest late last week surprised a Lawrence, Massachusetts police officer when the suspect pulled out a three-week-old puppy from his pocket reported whdh.com.

The adorable little one was turned over to the Lawrence Animal Control who notified Pittie Love Rescue Shelter in Framingham; from there the tiny pooch was turned over to a foster home for around the clock care. Alexis Bywater, the foster mom, who initially cared for the puppy, named the little one "Pocket."

"I was actually shocked at how tiny she was, she didn't have any teeth and was just like a tiny loaf."

By Sunday night, however Pocket wasn't doing well; the puppy began to vomit and exhibit diarrhea. She was rushed to the Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Waltham where she received additional medical care under the careful eye of Dr. Kristina DePaula. The puppy is now doing fine and has become a tiny superstar at the hospital.

It is illegal to sell a dog or cat in most states under the age of eight-weeks. It has not been announced if the suspect who had "Pocket" in his pocket will be charged with animal cruelty.

In the meantime, the tiny black, adorable pooch named Pocket will be released from the veterinary hospital, returned to her foster home and be cared for, until Pittie Love Rescue Shelter says she is ready to be adopted.

What a way to begin life Pocket!

Woman Gets Snake She Didn't Order in Mail

Granite City, Illinois, police say a woman has received a baby python in the mail that someone purchased with her credit card number.

Delores Gavin said a FedEx delivery man left the snake at her front door Tuesday. The $100 spotted python was sent from a reptile dealer in California and is a common pet among reptile lovers.

Gavin says she screamed when she found the snake, which she didn't order.

The reptile dealer has agreed to take the snake back and refund $100 charged to Gavin's credit card.

Udderly Unbelievable: Ill. Cow Named World's Tallest

Blosom, a 6-foot-4-inch Holstein, has been named the world's tallest cow by Guinness World Records.

"She's huge," Lynne Acebey, a veterinarian at the Orangeville (Ill.) Animal Health Service told USA Today Network. Acebey took Blosom's official measurements for the record. Blosom is about a foot taller than the average female Holstein, according to Acebey.

"She loves her oats and she loves to hang out on the pasture," Acebey said, calling the cow a "big, gentle giant."

Blosom's owner, Patty Hanson, got the animal as a calf and has kept her as a pet. The cow is now 13-years-old and weighs 2,000 pounds.

"I told my dad years ago that Blosom was destined for stardom, and with this record she has achieved that," Hanson told the Associated Press.

Guinness World Records sent Hanson an official confirmation of Blosom's record in August and the company sent photographers this week to take the animal's photo. The milestone will be included in the 2016 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Milk it for all it's worth, Blosom.

These Lovable Black Rescue Cats Will Make You Leave Your Superstitions Behind

It's said that a black cat crossing your path will lead to bad luck, but for these roommates, their two kitties brought them nothing but fortune.

Hunan and Adore, two tuxedo cats, were rescued and brought to the ASPCA at 4 weeks old. They were strays, suffering from severe upper respiratory infections, which caused both of them to experience serious eye problems. Though kittens are usually adopted quickly, the two had a bit of an extended stay at the adoption center, which is why their current owners, Kaylie Cordingley and Sam Bell, who took the cats home to their new Brooklyn apartment in July, say it was fate that brought them together.

Dog Kicker Filmed Kicking his Pooch in Elevator Banned from Owning More Pets

John Delaney, who was caught mercilessly kicking his cattle dog in an elevator back in April on a closed circuit television video, pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty this week in front of Magistrate Greg Grogin in NSW Australia reported the DailyTelegraph.com.au.

Delaney, who lives in the Waterloo apartments, was fined $600 and banned from owning any pets for the next two years. The disturbing video, turned into the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals by the building manager, showed Delaney repeatedly kicking the dog for no apparent reason.

Authorities from the RSPCA were able to obtain a search warrant and seized the dog named Rusty from Delaney's apartment.

Delaney's girlfriend was fined $500 and also banned from owning pets for the next two years for failing to get Rusty veterinarian treatment for a severe flea infestation.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Magistrate Grogin told Delaney:

“Talk about a defenseless animal — you should be ashamed of yourself."

Rusty is available for adoption through the Australian Working Dog Rescue. Check out all of their adorable and adoptable pets; remember to adopt and don't shop for your next best friend.

How to Train Your Cat To Let You Sleep Sometimes

Cats sleep sixteen hours a day—but not in a row. They take naps and wake up round the clock. Their sleeping schedule is somewhat like an infant's. Whereas most adult humans like to sleep through the night. So you can see the potential for conflicts. But every conflict is an opportunity for a win-win resolution.

When cats do sleep, sometimes they use your bed, or use you as a bed, because they want to be close to you. This is endearing, but some people have trouble sleeping with a cat layed out on their stomach.

So there are two issues with which this article deals: cats awake at night, making noise, and cats asleep at night, taking over the bed.

We Love Shelter Pets! According To This Report, You Do Too

Shelter pets are the best! You know it, we know it and a new report shows we're far from alone in holding -- possibly also hugging and cuddling -- this belief.

The PetSmart Charities 2014 U.S. Shelter Pet Report finds that 66 percent of people considering bringing home a new pet say they would adopt their new furry friend instead of going to a breeder or other source. That's up from 58 percent in 2011.

Watch This Firefighter Save Dog From Fire, Revive Pup Using Human Oxygen Mask (Video)

This firefighter understands that any life -- no matter the species -- is a life worth saving.

Last Thursday, firefighters responded to a burning home in Virginia, rescuing the woman inside the house, CBS6 reported. The emergency responders didn't forget her furry companion, Keiser, and carried the dog out of the home as well. Though the canine made no movement and it appeared as though he wasn't going to survive, firefighter Josh Moore and paramedic Bubby Bish decided to make a last-ditch attempt to save the pet.

Moore strapped an adult mask to its snout, administered large amounts of oxygen to the pup, and successfully saved the pup.
