A Big Thank You to the Oakland Firefighters Local 55, Who Revive Dog with a Snout Breathing Mask

It’s good to know that firefighters are there to protect our family when we need them to, even our non-human family. This week, Oakland Firefighters Local 55 responded to a working fire. With no visibility and high heat, the firefighters went to work to put out the flames while conducting a search of the area. They found a small dog crate with an unconscious dog inside.

They hauled the crate out of the blaze and immediately provided care to the unresponsive pup. After some rescue breathing, the Ambulance Supervisor arrived with a snout-shaped breathing mask to slip over the dog’s muzzle and give oxygen. With the mask doing its job and workers giving lots of pets and care, the dog regained consciousness.

This story has a happy ending. The dog made a full recovery and is doing just fine. I’m glad to know that these snout masks are being used to keep our fur families safe. A big thanks to all the firefighters and ambulance workers who were on the scene and made sure to value all lives in danger.

Woman With No Family Looses Everything in House Fire: Needs Donations for Help with Vet Bills for Pets Burned in Fire

Massachusetts: A terrifying nightmare in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning as an apartment building caught fire and residents had to flee for their lives. In the ensuing horror, resident Katy lost all sight of her two beloved kitties Mister and Gus.

The building was destroyed in the fast moving blaze, and Katy, losing everything, feared she had lost the loves of her life as well. In the hours and days that followed Katy posted and searched tirelessly for any sign of Gus and Mister. She soon learned that Mister, her 9 year old Russian Blue mix, had been found by nearby neighbors, terribly burned, and taken to a local vet clinic.

Katy rushed to the clinic only to find her sweet Mister lying suffering with no help. She whisked him away to a different hospital, where surgery was performed. Katy was able to find a little help locally for Mister, but sadly not nearly enough. And as Mister struggles now with infection, more procedures needed, and a lot of long-term care and pain management needed, Katy is $1000 in the hole with the hospital, only a few dollars to her name and denied credit, and desperately needs our help to assure Mister the life-saving care he needs.

We spoke with the hospital, they have agreed to keep Mister in for another week.. on the condition we overnight $2100 for his past due bill and current estimate. I said of course we will. Now I need your help to make good on that promise.

Beyond that, Gus was never found. In a few moments I will do a separate post for Gus. I wish for Katy so much that we would find Gus. He may be out there, he may be badly injured and suffering. We need to know, and to help him if we can.

Lastly, this young lady has lost everything and has no family. Gus and Mister are her family. And it's Christmas. We would like to raise enough funds to give Katy a generous gift card from both Macy's and WalMart so that she can replace just a few of the personal items so badly needed, and know that there are many good people in this world who care when others suffer, and reach out to help.

Please help us give Katy, Mister, (and paws crossed very, very tightly, Gus), an Alex's Angel Christmas.

Please help Mister with any donation possible at http://fortheloveofalex.org/donate.html. Please type Mister in the Referred By box (if using our secure Acceptiva major credit cards/echeck page) or in the Note/Message to Seller Box (PayPal). Depending on the payment method, Paypal also asks the pet's name on the donation review page after you enter all your info.

The address for mailed donations is also at the link. Thank you so much for your helping Mister and Katy. For The Love Of Alex Inc is an all volunteer, 501c3 organization, helping pets in urgent need of veterinary care and the families who love them.

Remember Precious, the Dog that Stood Guard Over Her Injured Owner During House Fire? She is Up for Adoption: Please Share Her Story

A loyal pit bull who stood guard over her injured owner is up for adoption after the family who took her in found they were unable to care for her.

The dog, Precious, guarded her unconscious owner after fire broke out at their Landover Hills, Maryland, home earlier this month. Precious stood guard over her even after fire crews arrived at the home — but she ended up at an animal shelter with her puppy, Molly, because of Prince George's County's ban on their breed.

The next day, Precious and Molly found a new home with their owner's sister, Megan Sanchez, who lives in Montgomery County.

"She just wanted to protect her mommy; that's all," Sanchez said about Precious. "And her house."

But Sanchez and her family soon found they were unable to care for Precious or her puppy. They were able to rehome Molly, but Precious was left without a family. That's when a friend contacted Jessica Stuby and her organization, Babes 4 Bullies, for help.

Stuby said Precious has been amazing companion since she began fostering her.
"She's doing great. She's actually at work with me. She's been a wonderful companion," Stuby said.

Precious suffered from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire and also had fleas. Stuby said she wants to give Precious time to recuperate and will focus on finding her a home in the new year.

On Dec. 2, Precious made headlines for her act of devotion. In fact, firefighters said they had trouble getting to her owner — who was hurt in the fire and lying unconscious on the front lawn — because the loyal dog was standing over her.

Firefighters tried to call Precious away, but she wouldn't budge and acted aggressively when they approached. They eventually deployed a powder fire extinguisher in her direction, causing Precious to run away and giving them time to get the woman onto a stretcher.

Stuby hopes Precious' story will help change the law that kept her from returning to her owner.

"I think the main important goal isn't to rehome, but that her story can change people's mind about the breed," Stuby said. "She's not just an amazing dog — this breed is an amazing breed."

A Dog Belonging to the Victim of a House Fire Stood Guard Over His Injured Owner: Fire Officials Say the Man is Expected to be Okay

A dog belonging to the victim of a house fire stood guard over his injured owner while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to the home in Landover Hill, Maryland, early Wednesday morning. Firefighters say they had trouble getting to one of the two people injured in the fire because the man's dog was standing over him.

Firefighters tried to call the dog away from the man, but the loyal pooch wouldn't budge. Firefighters eventually deployed a powder fire extinguisher in the direction of the dog, giving them time to get the man out of the house.

The dog was never aggressive towards the firefighters, Mark Brady, a spokesman for the fire department, said.

Even after firefighters removed the man from the home, the dog could be seen sitting next to his injured owner.

The victim's son says his father is expected to be okay. The man's adult daughter also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A dog, two turtles and several puppies inside the home were removed safely. Animal control officers took the animals from the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials do not believe the home had smoke detectors.

The Heart-Wrenching Moment Firefighters Resuscitate Dying Labrador Using Oxygen Mask

This is the heart-wrenching moment firefighters carried an injured dog away from a house blaze in New Jersey after risking their lives to rescue two pet canines - but only managing to save one.

Fire crews were called to the multi-family home on Frances Street in Totowa on Sunday afternoon following reports of a three-alarm fire. They quickly determined no people were at the residence.

However, two dogs were inside the property - a Labrador retriever belonging to the unidentified family on the second floor, and a Shih Tzu owned by Carmen and Julio Valencia on the first floor.

Firefighters set about tackling the blaze and initially appeared to have it under control. But before long, flames were flaring up through the house's roof, sending black smoke billowing into the sky.

In an effort to save the pet dogs, officials wearing masks pulled up a ladder to the side of the building and climbed up to a second-floor window, which at one point, flames were spotted shooting out of.

They managed to pull the yellow Labrador through the window, before carrying the panting dog to safety in bedding. They then laid the terrified animal on the ground and gave it oxygen and water.

The Labrador was treated at a veterinarian following the fire, which occurred at around 2.30 p.m., according to NorthJersey.com. Its current condition is unknown and its owners remain unnamed.

But despite the dog's escape, the Valencias' pet Shih Tzu, Luke, was not so fortunate. Firefighters asked the couple where their six-month-old puppy might be hiding, before entering the first floor.

However, when they found Luke, he was already dead.

The Valencias, who have two sons, apparently broke down when they were told their beloved pet had been killed in the blaze. They were handed the deceased puppy in a white bag by officials.

Speaking to the news site, Mr. Valencia, 49, said his wife was 'freaking out' about the death of the Luke, whom she had been worrying about during their frantic drive back to their burning home.

She was also reportedly so shocked about the fire that she had to be given oxygen at the scene.

Firefighters from Totowa, Little Falls, Woodland Park and Wayne spent several hours battling the blaze on Sunday afternoon. The property was left severely damaged, with huge holes in its roof.

No injuries to officials were reported, and the cause and origin of the fire remain unknown.
Police were also at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

Two Parrots Yelled 'Help' and 'Fire' from Inside Burning Home: Firefighters Heard Them and Got Them Out Safely

Canyon County, Idaho - Firefighters thought they were looking for people who were yelling “help” and “fire” from inside a burning house Friday night. But, according to news reports, what the firefighters were actually hearing were two parrots who the firefighters found and removed from the home.

Once they got the flames contained, though, they discovered that the noises were actually coming from two parrots that were “talking”.

Firefighters say the birds were actually saying “Help!” and “Fire!”

Crews removed the birds from the home and gave them oxygen. They are expected to be all right.

Woman Says After Her Home Caught Fire, The Insurance Company is Refusing to Pay Her Claim, Because She Owns A Pit Bull

Picture of kitchen after fire
East Rockaway, NY - A woman says after her home caught fire, she contacted Adirondack Insurance, who is refusing to pay her claim.

Their reason…she owns a pit bull.

Mary Grace O'Brien, lives on Lawrence Street, with her three children and multiple pets.

In October, her dryer caught fire, and gutted the entire house. The family has been living with a friend.

The insurance company says that they were unaware that she owned a pit bull. She claims they never asked about any of her six pets.

"They produced a letter with a signature on the bottom," O'Brien says. "I had never seen it before and it said I have no pets. I have cats and I have dogs. I would never say that I have no pets. Nobody ever asked me."

Adirondack Insurance says pit bulls are on their list of prohibited dogs listed on their guidelines.

A broker from Sidakas Insurance Agency in Queens sold O'Brien the policy. She believes they lifted her signature from another document and put it on the application in question.

The insurance company is refusing to make a statement.

She is now filing a lawsuit against both Insurance companies.

What are your thoughts?

Watch This Firefighter Save Dog From Fire, Revive Pup Using Human Oxygen Mask (Video)

This firefighter understands that any life -- no matter the species -- is a life worth saving.

Last Thursday, firefighters responded to a burning home in Virginia, rescuing the woman inside the house, CBS6 reported. The emergency responders didn't forget her furry companion, Keiser, and carried the dog out of the home as well. Though the canine made no movement and it appeared as though he wasn't going to survive, firefighter Josh Moore and paramedic Bubby Bish decided to make a last-ditch attempt to save the pet.

Moore strapped an adult mask to its snout, administered large amounts of oxygen to the pup, and successfully saved the pup.

10 -Year-Old Pit Bull Saves Family and 5 Other Dogs in House Fire

Wellston, Ok - A 10-year-old pit bull terrier in Lincoln County, Oklahoma is being praised for her heroic actions. She saved two sisters from their burning home.

You'd never know "Baby" is an old dog. Her owners can barely keep up. And, apparently, "Baby's" mind is just as fast as her feet. Early Tuesday smoke and flames filled the family's Wellston home. Rhonda Westenberger and her sister were sound asleep, unaware of the danger until "Baby" sprang to action.

Baby, the pit bull, she went and nudged her and kept touching her. The dog would not stop barking and pouncing until the women woke up. And, when they did, they had just seconds to escape.

"I went back and there were flames shooting down the hallway," said Rhonda. "If baby hadn't woken Evelyn up, I don't think either one of us would have come out of this."

The women ran out but their other five dogs were stuck inside. So, once again, "Baby" came to the rescue.

"And then there was one hiding under the bed, wouldn't come out," aid family member Charles Land. "Baby actually went under there, grabbed it by the neck and dragged him outside."

The family's home of 17 years and everything in it is gone, but the family says their hope is not lost.

"She's always come across to us as one of the family and this just proves it."

As long as they have their family, their Baby, by their side.

"I'm so proud of her," said Rhonda. "She is my hero. She's the hero for all of us."
