Spanish Nurse Free of Ebola, Not Told About Dog

This is an undated image released on Wednesday Oct. 8, 2014 by animal rights organisation PACMA, of Teresa Romero, the nursing assistant who is infected with Ebola in Madrid, with her dog named Excalibur. Officials in Madrid got a court order to euthanize the pet dog of Spanish nursing assistant Romero, because of the chance the animal might spread the disease. At least one major study suggests that dogs can be infected with the deadly Ebola virus without showing symptoms, but whether or how likely they are to spread it to people is less clear.

Homeless Dogs Rescued From Junkyard Transform Into Beautiful, Loving Pups

Little strays Elmer and Elsie were scared and covered with motor oil when members of Hope For Paws found them alone in a Los Angeles-area junkyard.

Elsie was so terrified that upon seeing her rescuers, she darted well out of arm's reach underneath a low platform. It took time, but with characteristic patience and kindness, Hope For Paws' Eldad Hagar and Lisa Arturo eventually coaxed both of the pups out of their hiding places.

In More Cities, That Doggie In The Window Is Not For Sale

Just about everyone loves puppies. But around the country, there's heated disagreement about where, and from whom, people can get one.

While the large national pet store chains don't sell dogs, other chains and shops do. But in several states, including Florida, cities are passing laws that ban puppy sales in pet stores.

At the Petland store in Plantation, Fla., a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, customers come in all day long to look at and play with the puppies. At this store, in fact, doggie accessories and puppies are all that owner Vicki Siegel sells.

Cute Alert! Clingy Pandas Don't Want to Take Their Medicine

How do pandas take medicine? Apparently with a great deal of effort from the zookeeper. Not only because they refuse to open their mouth, but also because it’s hard to be heavy handed in the face of such adorableness.

Want a Dog? It'll Cost You: Pet Rents Become the Latest Apartment Fad

Los Angeles (AP) - Mans best friend is taking a bite out of renters wallets.

Pet security deposits register in the hundreds of dollars and are getting steeper. Now, a monthly rental payment ranging from $10 to $50 is quickly becoming the norm, adding to the cost. Apartment managers nationwide say they require some safety net against pet damage, while others won't allow animals at all.

The rents and deposits pay for dog-poop picker-uppers, cleaning services and more, but some managers say they charge because they can. Many residents decry the move, arguing they are being bilked to keep their cats and canines.

Mouthless 'Elephant' Pig Born In China

Some people may be familiar with the South Park episode "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig." Rest assured that this unfortunate creature had nothing to do with that.

From the looks of its long snout, one might get the impression that this piglet is part elephant, but it isn't. The peculiar pig was born from a 550-pound sow earlier this month in Northeastern China. Sadly, the piglet was born without a mouth, and died about two hours after it was born.

Photos from October 17 show the carcass of the piglet, which was frozen in order to preserve it.

These Amazing Pups Would Like To Remind You It's 'Adopt A Shelter Dog Month'

The details of how these 52 dogs came to be available for adoption are varied, inspiring and sometimes tragic.

Sophie, it's thought, was used as a breeding dog, later abandoned in an attic with a litter of pups. Caliber is one of 26 dogs rescued out of a dogfighting ring in Apopka, Florida.

Sweet Kit was found running about as a stray in Washington, D.C. And someone -- we can't imagine who would do this -- left precious little Columbo in a box at a gas station in Indiana.
