An Opossum Broke Into a Liquor Store, Got Drunk and Sobered Up in a Wildlife Rescue Center

Ft. Walton Beach, Florida - An opossum that apparently drank bourbon after breaking into a Florida liquor store sobered up at a wildlife rescue center and was released unharmed.

Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge officials say the opossum was brought in by a Fort Walton Beach, Florida, police officer on Nov. 24. A liquor store employee found the animal next to a broken and empty bottle of bourbon.

"A worker there found the opossum up on a shelf next to a cracked open bottle of liquor with nothing in it," said Michelle Pettis, a technician at the refuge. "She definitely wasn't fully acting normal."

Pettis told the Northwest Florida Daily News the female opossum appeared disoriented, was excessively salivating and was pale. The staff pumped the marsupial full of fluids and cared for her as she sobered up.

"We loaded her up with fluids to help flush out any alcohol toxins," Pettis said. "She was good a couple of days later."

Pettis says the opossum did not appear to have a hangover.

The store owner, Cash Moore, says he never had an opossum break in before.

"She came in from the outside and was up in the rafters, and when she came through she knocked a bottle of liquor off the shelf," Moore said. "When she got down on the floor she drank the whole damn bottle."

"But it just goes to show that even the animals are impressed with Cash's," he said.

The animal was released on Thursday.

US Doctor, Ming Te Lin Accused of Making Vaccines for Children From Cat Saliva and Vodka

Regulators have suspended the license of a doctor in Chicago who allegedly gave patients modified vaccinations containing cat saliva and vodka. 

The Illinois department of financial and professional regulation ordered the emergency action in the interest of public safety, according to paperwork signed by acting director Jessica Baer.

After hearing complaints from health care providers that children were getting unapproved oral versions of childhood shots from Dr. Ming Te Lin, investigators visited Lin’s practice.

They found a cluttered, unsterile office and “a box filled with vials and tubes that [Lin] was using to make his own vaccinations.”

Lin told investigators he had been preparing alternative vaccinations for children for more than a decade, according to the order.

Despite his unapproved methods, Lin is accused of signing state forms certifying he had given pediatric patients their conventional shots. Charts showed the patients who received unapproved oral vaccines included a seven-day-old infant.

A phone message and email seeking comment from Lin on the allegations were not immediately returned.

Lin added alcohol and sometimes cat saliva gathered with a swab from a cat’s mouth for patients with allergies, he told investigators, and he used a device called the “WaveFront 2000” to detoxify vaccinations from mercury.

Lin gave vaccines orally or in a nasal form if the patient or a family member had a history of autism, eczema or neurological disorder.

None of Lin’s methods is approved by the Food and Drug Administration or regarded as legitimate medicine. He didn’t inform his patients of the risks of failing to follow vaccine guidelines, the state’s paperwork says.

A hearing before the Medical Disciplinary Board is set for 11 October in Chicago.

Drunk Monkey Chases Men at Brazilian Bar After Drinking Leftover Rum

This is the bizarre moment a drunk monkey picked up a kitchen knife and began terrorizing men in a bar.

The capuchin became aggressive after drinking leftover rum at the venue in Paraiba, Brazil.

It grabbed a foot-long knife and began chasing the male drinkers – but not the women.

The bar owner was forced to call the fire brigade as the monkey rampaged out of control.

Fire chief Lt. Col Saul Laurentino said: “It was a bar staff oversight that ended with the monkey drinking some rum and taking the knife.”

A video posted on YouTube shows the animal scraping the roof tiles with the blade before it dashed off.

Firefighters eventually managed to capture the animal after the incident earlier this month and released it into a nature reserve, it was reported by Ninemsn, which cited a Rede.

But the feisty capuchin had to be caught once again after it began terrorizing nearby residents.

Officials are now trying to decide whether to release it into the wild again or place it in captivity.

A recent study found that capuchin monkeys can have quite a temper and will punish others who get more than their fair share.

Researchers found they will yank on a rope to collapse a table that is holding another's food.

Chimpanzees, meanwhile, will only do so if they feel a crime has been committed by another monkey, such as stealing the food.

A video last year also showed a capuchin lashing out in anger at being filmed.

Onions and garlic
Whether fresh, cooked, dried or powdered, these veggies cause damage to red blood cells and gastrointestinal problems in pets. "The small amounts found in dog food and supplements usually don't cause a problem, but we recommend not giving it to your pet," Klau said.

Signs that you should call your vet: weakness, shortness of breath, loss of appetite or vomiting

Alcohol
Make sure you keep alcohol far away from your pets, advises Klau. Beer, liquor or wine damages your pet’s liver, brain and can cause diarrhea, disorientation, dehydration and put your pet in a comatose state if not treated quickly.

Signs that you should call your vet: vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, disorientation, stupor and, in severe cases, coma, seizures or the inability to stand up.

Caffeine
If consumed in large enough quantities, anything caffeinated can kill your pet. That includes coffee (even the grounds), tea, energy drinks and medications.

Signs that you should call your vet: rapid heartbeat, muscle tremors, bleeding, restlessness, rapid breathing or seizure-like symptoms.

Grapes and raisins
These snacks are perfect for people, but not so much for pets. Small amounts can make your sidekick sick, while larger amounts can cause kidney failure.

Signs that you should call your vet: non-stop vomiting, exhaustion or depression.

Unbaked bread dough
If it’s made with live yeast, raw dough can expand in your pet's stomach. Small amounts can lead to gastrointestinal upset, bloating and a belly ache.

Signs that you should call your vet: vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, disorientation, stupor and, in severe cases, coma, seizures, swelling belly or the inability to stand up.

Raw eggs, meat and fish
Uncooked food may be contaminated with salmonella or E. coli, which can upset your pet's gastrointestinal tract.

Signs that you should call your vet: vomiting, fever or enlarged lymph nodes.

Fat trimmings and bones
Sure, they’re delicious for pets, but fat trimmings and bones just as dangerous. Fat, whether cooked or raw, can cause pancreatitis, and bone splinters can get lodged in your pet's mouth and throat and even block or perforate the digestive system.

Signs that you should call your vet: diarrhea, blood in the stool, abdominal pain or loss of appetite.

Dairy
Milk and other dairy products are not well tolerated by cats and is particularly rough on dogs. "Dogs don't posses a significant amount of lactase, the enzyme that breaks down milk," Klau said. Dairy products also predispose pets to food allergies.
