Be Careful What You Share on Facebook: A Picture of a Dog that Said it Had Been Badly Burned and Disfigured While Trying to Save his Family from a Fire…Was a Hoax

In these days of instant viral news, be careful what you share. In the past few weeks, many users have fallen victim to the story of Mark Zuckerburg giving you his money for copying and pasting a status (it's a hoax). A new one popped up in the days before Christmas and it is spreading quickly.

Stephen Roseman posted the picture of a dog that said it had been badly burned and disfigured while trying to save his family from a fire. He included the text "One like = one prayer, one share = ten prayers.”

The picture was shared 110,000 times in a week and has over 54,000 likes. But here's the deal: that's a piece of ham.

The dog was not badly burned in a fire. He's just got a piece of ham on his face. Hopefully, the pup got to eat the ham after being embarrassed online.

Inevitably, the photo was shared with people writing comments like 'poor baby' or 'bless his heart' or asking Jesus to heal the dog.

No healing necessary. It's a piece of ham.

This Bird is Too Sexy for Facebook

LONDON — The quintessentially British holiday scene of a Christmas card featuring a robin redbreast in the snow was blocked from sale by Facebook after it was deemed too risqué.

Jackie Charley, the artist behind the picture, posted the image — as well as others of a squirrel and a stag — on her Facebook page late last month along with the description “making history.”

"Hilariously, Facebook has blocked my Christmas cards from becoming a product in my shop due to their shameful, sexual nature! 😂" she wrote.

"It looks like we didn't approve your item because we don't allow the sale of adult items or services (e.g. sexual enhancement items or adult videos).

“Please judge for yourself!  😉 (Can't stop laughing!) And if you'd like a pack of six at £5.99 plus postage and packaging let me know.”

Daytona Beach Police Are Investigating a Photo on Facebook of a Dog with His Mouth Taped Shut

A picture posted to Facebook showing a dog with its mouth taped has sparked an investigation with the Daytona Beach Police Department, according to a news release.

A man who lists his name on Facebook as Bryan Futur Gomez posted the picture to his page on Sunday. The dog is seen lying on the floor seemingly between two people with blue tape wrapped around its muzzle. Also on the floor is an orange box and bits of paper scattered around.

In the photo caption, Gomez claims the dog is his, although that hasn't been verified. He writes that taping a dog's mouth is the wrong way to punish the animal and that he wanted to demonstrate that.

He claims the dog's mouth was taped for "emergency purposes only" using a stretchable tape with the adhesive portion folded inward so it could come on and off. He added that if his post gets 400 shares he'll post a video showing tricks the dog has been trained to do.

Gomez has not returned the Orlando Sentinel's request for comment.

Hundreds of people have shared and commented on the Facebook post to criticize the actions seen in the photo. Many of those same users contacted the Daytona Beach Police Department urging them to investigate the photo.

The department released a statement saying that animal control officers are currently working to identify the person who taped the dog's mouth shut so they can determine if any charges should be filed.

A spokesman said Wednesday that the Daytona Beach Police Department is trying to locate a suspect but no other information or updates were available.

Daytona police investigated a similar incident in November when a woman named Katharine Lemansky posted a photo to Facebook of a chocolate lab-mix with its mouth taped shut. The woman was from South Daytona but was in Cary, N.C. when she made the post.

In that case, animal control officers in Cary found that the dog seemed to be well taken care of with no signs of injury, so Lemansky was able to keep the canine but she was charged with animal cruelty.

Touching Photos of Dogs Shared on Social Media Leads to Multiple Rescues from Animal Control

With the help of social media, and thanks to a poignant photo taken by a volunteer photographer, an entire "album" of dogs who were slated to be put down on October 7 in Brighton, Tennessee, have been saved.

The non-profit organization, Paws and Claws Photography for Tipton County Animal Shelter, posted a photo of a young, female German shepherd mix hugging a volunteer, to their Facebook page and the response from those who viewed the image was immediate - shares and comments began to pour in.

The emotional photo was captioned with the following words:

Kennel D2-female-This girl just sits by her kennel door with her face pressed against the door like she is waiting for her owner

Before the dreaded "E-Day" arrived, the page was updated with amazing news for the Facebook page followers:

It is absolutely amazing what all of you have done tonight! Thanks to your shares and generous donations every single one of these dogs will get their freedom ride in the morning! THANK YOU!!!

On Tuesday, an update about the dog who sparked the initial wave of compassion and good will, was shared with those individuals who were clamoring for updates about her fate:

This girl has been taken into the PAWS New England rescue. Anyone interested in adopting her will need to do so through PAWS New England. She is not going to another shelter, but she is going to a foster home.

Paws and Claws Photography for Tipton County Animal Shelter created the Facebook page, which is managed by a group of volunteers, with the intent of increasing adoptions at the Tipton County Animal Shelter through photography - based on this week's amazing accomplishment, their efforts seem to be working.

Arkansas Woman Calls Police After Spotting What She Thought Was a 'Dead Tiger'

An Arkansas woman called police to report seeing a deceased tiger on the side of the roadway, according to the Bryant Police Department's Facebook page.

Police said the woman would have stopped to take photos, but she was too scared to approach the tiger.

Officer VanVeelen arrived to discover that the tiger was a large stuffed animal, according to Chief Kizer with the Bryant Police Department.

The officer decided to give the stuffed animal a ride back to the station.
