USA's Ravenous $1.5B Problem: 5 Million Wild Pigs

(NEWSER) – In the past three decades, wild pigs have been spreading across America like crazy — to the tune of 5 million of the porkers in 39 states.

The pigs have been part of the landscape since the 1600s, when early settlers allowed them to roam; some escaped, though their numbers have long been relatively few and largely limited to the South.

Eleven Members of Brazilian Family Seriously Ill After Unintentionally Eating World's Most Venomous Fish for Dinner

Eleven members of the same Brazilian family are in a critical condition in hospital after unwittingly cooking up the world's deadliest fish for their supper, it was reported today.

The pufferfish was caught by members of the Souza family while fishing near Duque de Caxias and contained a toxin 1,200 times more lethal than cyanide - a drop of which can kill within 24 hours.

The poison paralyses the muscles while the victim remains fully conscious, eventually dying of asphyxiation when the venom reaches the diaphragm.

Gorilla Scares Children at Zoo With Routine

A gorilla at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, likes to give his onlookers a thrill. As seen on this video, he waits motionless then lurches toward the viewing enclosure and gives it a bang. Shrieks -- and cheers -- ensue.

According to the person who filmed this, it’s a part of his regular routine. “The cool part is that he waits for someone to enter the barrier and a crowd before doing this routine,” he told Storyful.

Do Not Post Your Dog on Craigslist as 'Free to Good Home' - Dog Flipper is Reselling Your Dog

This is what someone posted on Craigslist:

BEWARE : DOG FLIPPER !!! Help me find my dog please !!! (TOWSON)

If you are trying to re-home your dog, DO NOT give it to a black guy named Jay !! He is a dog flipper !!

I had my dog on Craigslist and this guy gave me a believable story so I allowed him to take my dog with the knowledge he could bring him back if things didn't work out. He came and got the dog at 9 pm on Tuesday evening. Wednesday evening I was scrolling thru the pet ads and saw an ad with a picture of my dog !! I opened the ad and sure enough it was his name (Jay) and his same phone number show contact info . I was furious to say the least. Obviously he only took my dog because he was free and wanted to make money on him. So I emailed him anonymously inquiring about the dog...no response. I also texted him from a different number inquiring about the dog...no response. The next morning I get a text from a strange number asking if I was missing a dog. Well this guy said he adopted the dog but the dog was scared and got out of the collar and ran away. No, it was a friend of Jay's just telling me that so I would think the dog was gone.

Jay told me before getting the dog that his girlfriend took his dog, a Yorkie, and then they split up and he told her to keep the dog that he would get himself another. He even sent me a video of him teaching the dog to rollover. He also told me he was moving back to Florida with his mother.

In his ad for my dog, it was a different story. He said he was in the military and was being deployed to Korea and couldn't take the dog.

My dog's name is Tucker. Jay said in his ad the dog's name was Cane...not. He is a Standard Rat Terrier. He is predominantly white with black spots. He is wearing a blue collar and his toenails are very long.

If anyone has adopted my dog, or knows his whereabouts, I would so very much appreciate any information you may have. I want to get my dog back and find him a decent, loving home...not with some dog flipper that doesn't care about Tucker's welfare !!

Below is the original Craigslist ad that I copied from. Ads on Craigslist stay up for approximately one week, so it may no longer be active.

BEWARE : DOG FLIPPER !!! Help me find my dog please !!! (TOWSON)

Ebola Virus: Australian Researchers Use Ferrets to Develop Vaccine for Deadly Disease

Australian researchers infecting ferrets to understand the deadly Ebola VIRUS at the CSIRO in Geelong said a vaccine would not come fast enough to stop the current outbreak.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), more than 650 people have been killed in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since an outbreak began in February.

The doctor leading Sierra Leone's fight against Ebola died on Tuesday afternoon (local time) from the virus.

There is no cure for the disease, which causes vomiting, diarrhea and internal and external bleeding.

Animals From Around the World Find a Sanctuary in Central Maine

MOUNT VERNON, MAINE — It's almost 2:30 p.m., and two large black bears are ready for an afternoon snack. As usual, Bob Miner has brought them some yummy peanut M&Ms.

The bears are glad to see him – so glad in fact, they're not fussy about how Mr. Miner likes to feed them: from his lips.

Donations Needed for Dog Injured in Fall - Collar Embedded in His Neck

I am sharing from my friends at Willy's Happy Endings Animal Shelter

Willy's Happy Endings Animal Shelter:
HELP!
We are currently at the vet with one of the worst embedded collar cases we have ever seen. This boy desperately needed our help after he fell from the bed of a truck and good Samaritans called the sheriff's dept.

He is heartworm positive, running a high fever, emaciated to the point of muscle atrophy, and has skin infections to boot.

We are dedicated to saving this boys life, but we need your help!

Please consider calling a donation in to the WHE account at North Stewart Vet for the embedded collar chow right away! 931-232-9900 you can also send a paypal to info@willyshappyendings.org or mail to W.H.E 2073 Wilma Rudolph Blvd. Clarksville TN 37040

Can't donate? You and/or your children can send 'get well' or 'good luck' cards and drawings to any of our animals and we will read them to them and hang them in their kennel!!

This is his story:

$500 REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST OF THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CRUELTY + an additional $500 pledged by supporters

On the morning of 10/17/2014 a Grey/Silver Ford Ranger drove past the Garden Place on Woodlawn Rd. This dog jumped or fell out of the bed of the truck and good Samaritans rushed to help him. The women say the man driving was a very large African American man and that he turned around to come back for the dog but did not stop when he saw them with him.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Dept. and Animal Control were on scene and took reports and Willy's Happy Endings was called to provide treatment and safe harbor for the dog.
If you have any information on who this man may be please contact W.H.E. #931-217-4495.

Phoenix has suffered at the end of a chain, likely for his whole life. His choke-chain collar was double looped and likely put on him as a puppy. As he grew, it cut into his neck slowly causing extreme and ever present pain and damage to deep tissue. He now has a systemic infection, is emaciated, heartworm positive, and has road rash to boot. The person who caused this suffering must be found and punished. WHE will not stop fighting! Together, we can make sure Phoenix rises from the ashes of his old life and that Justice is done to the man responsible on his behalf.
