Trixie and Texas: Black Labs Found at Landfill - Looking for Their Forever Home, As Time is Running Out

In Orangeburg County Animal Control and Shelter in South Carolina, all of the kennels are full. Trixie and Texas were both picked up as strays a few days ago at a local landfill; no one even knows if they are related, but volunteers provide the following heart-wrenching information about these two black Labrador retrievers:

"We don't know if this is even the mama to this little guy. They were both found at the land fill. He cowers behind her...like she is his protector. Both of these are beautiful dogs. She is really friendly. Texas is still a little scared but certainly is handsome."

The kennels at Orangeburg County Animal Control are currently being occupied by dogs involved in court cases; therefore because of lack of space, strays and surrendered dogs are only allowed the minimum time limits before they are euthanized.

Click HERE for information from the Facebook page of Friends of Orangeburg County Animal Control and Shelter for help in adopting or fostering.

Click HERE for the emergency Facebook thread for Trixie and Texas. Please share their emergency situation with friends, family and coworkers. Send this article on to a Facebook friend and to animal rescues. Their stories have been shared 136 times, but no one has stepped up to help. Sharing saves lives.

Man Accused of Starving Dog Faces Charge of Aggravated Animal Cruelty

According to Friday's My News 13, a man near Winter Park, Florida, is facing a charge of aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly starving a pit bull.

An emaciated dog named "Zola," was rescued from 22-year-old Aaron Dennis' apartment on Thursday; authorities noted that the home was covered in urine and feces and the skeletal dog was unable to stand when they arrived. According to the Orlando Sentinel, a concerned neighbor contacted the authorities to report that a dog had been abandoned in Dennis' apartment.

Dennis told investigators that he had been out of town for a few days and did not know that the dog was sick.

Zola is currently in the custody of Orange County Animal Services and her prognosis for survival is unknown. Dennis was booked into jail.

Dog Drinking In Slow Motion From 'The Secret Life Of Dogs' (Video)

Leave it to ultra-slow motion to reveal the true genius of our furry friends.

We kind of suspected that dogs were brilliant -- in an understated, not-at-all showy kind of way.

And, sure, many of you already know that they have a rather unique drinking style -- all that water seeming to slosh and splash up against our faithful furball's face. In real-time, dogs seem to douse their faces, hoping some of that water creeps down their throats.

But, seen in ultra slow motion, that simple act has an utterly fascinating grace.

Check out this clip from the also-kind-of-brilliant documentary The Secret Life of Dogs. It shows an Alsatian drinking water filmed with a Phantom camera at 1000 frames per second.

Seeing Eye Cat Adopts Blind Dog As Best Friend, Guides Him Everywhere

This is the classic story of a dog chasing a cat, though it turns the convention on its tail, so to speak.

The remarkable tale of friendship focuses on Pudditat, a stray feline with a fierce reputation as a bully who grew close to Tervel, a blind farm dog afraid to leave the safety of his bed.

Pudditat becomes a seeing-eye-dog of sorts, leading Tervel around with her tail in a delightful show of animals helping each other out.

Covered In Tar And Unable To Move, See This Amazing Rescue That Saved This Dog's Life

A dog that had fallen into a pool of hot tar in India was almost unrecognizable when rescuers got to him. He was stuck to the ground and unable to move as solidified tar stiffened his body. He was covered in leaves, grass and other debris and his breathing was barely visible. His frightened eyes were the only things that moved.

Animal Aid Unlimited, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing animals in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, recently posted a video of the heartbreaking situation and the rescue operation that followed.

“He had fallen into a pool of hot tar that smothered his body and had became rock-solid,” the video description said of the animal. “He was stuck to the ground and unable to move. A passerby saw him struggling and called our help-line. After three hours of massaging vegetable oil into the thick layer of tar watch his amazing recovery!”

The entire rescue was completed over the course of took two days. When completely free of the tar and grime, the difference was shocking.

Beneath the sticky black coat was a brown dog with floppy ears. Though thin, the animal was filmed wagging its tail  and eating shortly after it was cleaned.

Watch his stunning transformation:

Man Allegedly Tries to Smuggle 51 Live Turtles Across U.S.- Canada Border - In His Pants

Detroit - A Canadian man has been charged after border agents at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel found more than 50 turtles strapped to his body and hidden between his legs.

The Detroit News reports that Windsor, Ontario, resident Kai Xu was charged Wednesday with smuggling, illegal trading and exporting. A bond hearing was scheduled Thursday in federal court in Detroit.

A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent received a tip about a large box sent to a Detroit postal center. Court documents say it was addressed to Xu and mailed from Alabama. Agents were watching the postal center on Aug. 5 when Xu arrived.

The turtles were found after Xu's SUV re-crossed the border and was stopped in Windsor.

It wasn't immediately clear if Xu has a lawyer.
