Cat With Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Finally Finds Forever Home, And His Humans Are Making Sure He’s Living A Happy Life with a Good Health

Toby The Sick Cat

When Georgina Price and her fiance Christopher Lardner adopted their first rescue feline, Herbie, the 16-year-old cat, was near the end of his journey. Sadly, Herbie died just months later.

And even though the couple had only known him for a little while, they were heartbroken by his passing. The loss, however, had opened their hearts for someone new.

“I just kept thinking about all the abandoned animals that might only have five months left and would spend the whole of that time in a shelter,” Georgina said. “We decided we would look for an extra special pretty cat that might take a little longer to find a home.”

Lockdown Puppies Being Increasingly Abandoned By Owners

Lockdown puppies are being increasingly abandoned by their owners, the RSPCA has warned, as its centres begin to be flooded with cats and dogs.

There was a huge surge in demand for puppies over lockdown as people on furlough and working from home wanted companionship. For some, it was the perfect opportunity to train a young dog.

However, as people return to work they have found they no longer have time for their pooch, and have been abandoning their pets at animal welfare charities.

Vets Warn People Against Buying 'Flat-Faced' Dogs

Pugs, bulldogs, French bulldogs and shih-tzus have become sought-after in the UK, despite wide-ranging health problems.

Their appeal is attributed to having "squashed" faces and wrinkled noses.

The British Veterinary Association said the surge in popularity of these dogs had "increased animal suffering".

Sean Wensley, president of the British Veterinary Association (BVA), said: "Prospective owners need to consider that these dogs can suffer from a range of health problems, from eye ulcers to severe breathing difficulties.

"We strongly encourage people to choose a healthier breed or a crossbreed instead."

The warning has been echoed by the PDSA, the Royal Veterinary College, the RSPCA and the Kennel Club.

Meanwhile, evidence suggests that an increasing number of the dogs - more correctly known as brachycephalic or short-muzzled dogs - are being abandoned by their owners.

Six dog rescue companies told the BBC that the breeds were being given up in greater numbers.

A Callous Exotic Pet Keeper Dumped His Chameleon in a Garden Bin on One of the Coldest Nights this Year

A callous exotic pet keeper deserves bad karma for dumping a chameleon on one of the coldest nights of the year.

Throwing the strikingly beautiful reptiles away inside a bag was effectively a death sentence for the cold-blooded creature.

RSPCA inspector Zoe Ballard took the veiled chameleon to a specialist vets for treatment but there was nothing they could do and it had to be put to sleep.

The animal welfare charity is now appealing for information to track down the cruel reptile owner who left the animal in garden rubbish in Hastings at the weekend.

“The poor little chap was clearly very unwell and to be dumped in a bag in this cold weather is completely unreasonable and inhumane,” said Inspector Ballard.

“Like many other reptiles, chameleons cannot regulate their own body temperature so rely on the environment they are in to keep at the correct body temperature.

"They are also very susceptible to infection and they are more at risk when placed into a dank environment.”

The RSPCA is witnessing a rapid rise in the number exotic creatures such as snakes and lizards being neglected and abandoned.

Last year, it received 4,990 calls about reptiles, a 37 per cent increase over the last decade and a result of more flamboyant and fascinating creatures being offered for sale, particularly over the internet.

Sadly, for the animals, naïve owners quickly find out caring for snakes, lizards and other unusual animals is both expensive and requires thorough research and expertise.

“It is a possibility that the owners took on this animal but were unable to provide the care he needs and decided to dump him,” added Inspector Ballard.

“This poor chameleon was dumped outside in freezing temperatures and left for dead.
"This is a terrible thing to do to any animal but it is particularly harmful for a chameleon as they are very sensitive and will suffer when placed in an incorrect environment.

The fact that he could not be saved is evidence of that.”

Anyone with information about this chameleon or how he came to be dumped in the garden is urged to contact the RSPCA Inspectorate Appeal Line in confidence on 0300 123 8018 and leave a message for inspector Ballard.

Woman Writes Heartwarming Letter to Soldier Forced to Give Up Beloved Dog

It’s a heartbreaking letter to an Australian soldier about loss, sacrifice and being sent into the unknown with a world of worry on his mind.

The soldier lost his mother recently and, to compound the grief, was forced to give her beloved dog Prinny to an animal shelter, after receiving deployment orders to Iraq.

In an open letter, Kae Norman, founder of animal rescue team Rescued With Love, articulated the soldier’s pain, and his anguish at leaving Prinny unloved, as he departed for the war zone.

Ms Norman wrote: “Dear Soldier, you don’t know me, but I know of you. I know you were heading to Darwin and then being deployed to Iraq.

“You are probably going through more than what anyone can ever imagine – and I wanted to ease your mind by letting you know your Mum’s dog Prinny is safe and happy with us at Rescued With Love.

“I know your Mum passed away and I am so sorry for your loss. Losing parents is hell, and to have to give up Prinny and surrender her to the RSPCA because you had no option would have been an unbearable burden.

“I read your surrender form which came with her paperwork, and my heart broke for you, for Prinny and for your Mum. You wrote such beautiful things about Prinny, and what a gorgeous girl she is. You were right, she certainly is.”

Ms Norman said older dogs like Prinny, who is 12 years and 4 months, don’t usually find a new home.

“I guess you know that, and thought you would give her a chance anyway,” she said in the letter. “The RSPCA did their best, and she was with them for ages …”

However, after a phone call to Rescued With Love, Prinny found a new home — with an Army veteran.

“He heard about Prinny’s predicament – and wanted to step up regardless,” Ms Norman said in her letter.

“I asked he and his wife to just wait and foster her – but it seems I didn’t need to be cautious at all. Prinny has fallen in love with her dad, and he with her, and they are now inseparable, and very, very loved.”

She added: “I don’t know where you are, or how to find you to tell you Prinny is safe. Maybe this will find you.

“All I know is my throat ached when I read your writing on that form when you handed her over – and I could not try to let you know she is safe, and very happy.

“Stay safe soldier.”

Here's Prinny, and a bestie called Brendan. Kisses all round.

Emerald Colored Stray Cat Turns Heads After Sleeping on Heap of Synthetic Paint

Picture of green cat
Stalking along the backstreets and failing miserably to blend into the background, the sight of this emerald-coloured stray has caused uproar in a Black Sea resort town.
Locals in Varna, Bulgaria, assumed the cat was the victim of a cruel prank by vandals and set up a Facebook group called 'Punishment to the the perpetrator of this criminal act'.

But it has now been revealed that the cat has developed a green hue because it usually sleeps on an abandoned heap of synthetic green paint in a garage.

Dog Kicker Filmed Kicking his Pooch in Elevator Banned from Owning More Pets

John Delaney, who was caught mercilessly kicking his cattle dog in an elevator back in April on a closed circuit television video, pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty this week in front of Magistrate Greg Grogin in NSW Australia reported the DailyTelegraph.com.au.

Delaney, who lives in the Waterloo apartments, was fined $600 and banned from owning any pets for the next two years. The disturbing video, turned into the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals by the building manager, showed Delaney repeatedly kicking the dog for no apparent reason.

Authorities from the RSPCA were able to obtain a search warrant and seized the dog named Rusty from Delaney's apartment.

Delaney's girlfriend was fined $500 and also banned from owning pets for the next two years for failing to get Rusty veterinarian treatment for a severe flea infestation.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Magistrate Grogin told Delaney:

“Talk about a defenseless animal — you should be ashamed of yourself."

Rusty is available for adoption through the Australian Working Dog Rescue. Check out all of their adorable and adoptable pets; remember to adopt and don't shop for your next best friend.

Expert Urges Cat Lovers to Own Just One Animal Each

We may be a nation besotted with the likes of Macavity, Rumpleteazer and Jellicles, but Britain’s love affair with cats needs to be controlled and owners should consider limiting themselves to a single pet per home, according to a leading animal expert.

Dr Sarah Ellis has risked the wrath of feline fans everywhere by warning that the growth in the number of multiple cat households has led to a “crisis situation” for the species causing unacceptable levels of territorial disputes and even resulting in psychological harm.
