Giant George: Great Dane Is Guinness World Record Holder for Tallest Dog Ever

Weighing in at over 245 pounds and standing 43 inches tall, George is the Guinness World Record holder for the "Tallest Living Dog and Tallest Dog Ever".

The Great Dane, now 6 years old, is almost 100 pounds bigger than other dogs of his breed, twice as tall as an average Golden Retriever and about the same weight as four German Shepherds, 11 Beagles or 26 Shih Tzus.

George’s owner, Dave Nasser has written a book, “Giant George: Life with the World’s Biggest Dog,” http://www.giantgeorge.com/ chronicling his life with the enormous Great Dane. George, who stands 43 inches tall, must sit on the couch like a human.

George sleeps on a Queen Size Bed ... alone.

George was born on Nov. 17, 2005.  Dave and Christie adopted him at seven weeks old. He was ironically the runt of the litter.

Meet Mochi, an 8-Year-Old, St. Bernard, Crowned in the Guinness World Records as Having the Longest Tongue on a Dog

Mochi ‘Mo’ Rickert, an eight-year-old St. Bernard from Sioux Falls in South Dakota, has got tongues wagging after she was crowned the Guinness World Records holder for the longest tongue on a dog. With her slobbery tongue dangling an impressive 18.58 cm (7.31 in) in length, Mochi is constantly stopped on the street by strangers, some of whom ‘stare and laugh’, her owner says.

But Mo doesn’t let the attention get to her, she has the previous record held by a male Pekinese named Puggy whose tongue eat measured 11.43cm (4.5 in).

Mochi found her new home with the Rickert family when she was two years old, through a rescue organization for large dogs.

It was “love at first sight”, says owner Carla Rickert, who drove 11 hours with her daughter to meet Mo before adopting her. Carla describes Mochi as a “resilient, happy-go-lucky dog, with a big personality.” She also enjoys dressing up in costumes, having her picture taken, spending time with her family, or snacking on sweet potatoes.

Mochi faces some obstacles as a result of her long tongue which include breathing challenges, extra slobber when she’s nervous, dirt, dust, leaves sticking to her tongue and help to pick things up off the floor. Her treats also have to be given in a special way, as she cannot grab onto them the same way other dogs do.

“Mochi is so humble, she never brags or boasts but I know that she is as proud of her new record as we are. It feels truly amazing to be a part of the Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals book! We are so grateful for the opportunity to make other’s smile,” said Carla.

Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of the first edition of Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals said, “We are very excited to welcome Mochi and her record-breaking tongue to the Guinness World Records family as part of our new publication, Amazing Animals. Amazing Animals is not your typical animals’ reference book. Instead, it takes a sideways look at our favorite pets and wild animals. Its a chance for us to celebrate the barking mad side of animal record-breaking.”

Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals, is a must-read for animal lovers. It explores crazy animal stories and fascinating facts from the wild and is available in shops and online now.

Mochi, a St Bernard from South Dakota, holds the Guinness World Record for the longest tongue of a dog.

The eight-year-old dog from Sioux Falls has topped the list for having a seven-inch tongue.

The 'humble' canine's huge tongue has landed her in the Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals book.

The book also features the fastest, largest and tallest record-holders, but it's Mochi's tongue that saw her take first place.

His tongue is a whopping 18.58cm, but Mochi's owner described her as humble despite the record-breaking status.

Meet Big Jake, The World’s Tallest Horse

Horses are majestic creatures and the subject of many stories, both fanciful and realistic. Something about a horse just appeals to mankind, and Big Jake is no different, though he tends to generate greater awe and excitement than most horses. Holding the Guinness World Record for the tallest horse in both 2010 and 2013, Big Jake stands 6 feet 10.75 inches tall. People tend to be speechless when they catch their first glance of the mighty Belgian.

A native of Nebraska, Big Jake was bought and moved to Poynette, Wis., where he currently lives on Smokey Hollow Farm with his owner Jerry Gilbert. Big Jake is a Belgian draft horse. According to PetBreeds, the Belgian draft horse was bred in the country of Belgium to do heavy work. Being the strongest breed of draft horse, the Belgian is ideal for work in forestry and logging as well as agriculture. Some people even use the Belgians for riding since these massive horses can carry a heavier load.

Of course, sustaining the massive size of a draft horse isn't cheap. In his YouTube interview, Gilbert says that Big Jake eats 1.5 bales of hay a day and 32 quarts of oats. That's a lot of food!

Besides being a big horse with a big appetite, Big Jake has a big heart. According to his website, Big Jake is also a supporter of the Madison, Wis., Ronald McDonald House. What an amazing horse! He truly takes your breath away!

Former World's Tallest Dog, Giant George Dies at Age 7

He was truly larger than life. Giant George, a 5-foot-tall, 245-pound Great Dane, passed away last week, one month shy of his 8 th birthday. He made headlines when Guinness World Records named him the world's tallest dog in 2010.

In his 7 short years, Giant George won the world record and appeared on Oprah, the Today show and Good Morning America. He was even the subject of the book Giant George: Life With the World's Biggest Dog by his owner, Dave Nasser.

"We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years. We look forward to honoring his spirit by continuing his charitable works," Team Giant George wrote in a recent blog post.

To honor his life, the Giant George team is asking animal lovers to donate to or volunteer for their favorite animal cause or organization on November 17, which would have been George's 8 th birthday.

Zeus, a Great Dane has Been Named World's Tallest Dog by Guinness World Records 2013

Guinness World Records has replaced Giant George, the handsome Great Dane who grew from runt to 43 inches, with a new “world’s largest dog”: the 44-inch Great Dane, Zeus.

A 44" Great Dane has been named the world’s tallest dog by Guinness World Records.

Aptly named Zeus weighs 155 pounds and reaches an astonishing height of 7' 4" standing on his hind legs.

In April, 2012, I posted a story about Giant George, a Great Dane that held the title as the Guinness World Record Holder for Tallest Dog Ever for 2012.

Owner Denise Doorlag from Michigan says the three-year-old is so big little children often thinks he is a horse.

She said her family was honored by their pet’s place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

‘We are just a regular family from Michigan, so to be able to say that we own the world’s tallest dog is very exciting, and the kids are just so excited.’

First published in 1955, The Guinness Book of World Records has sold more than 120 million copies to date in over 100 countries.

Standing normally, he’s about the height of an average donkey. He eats 12 cups of food each day.

Big dog: Great Dane Zeus measures 44in from paw to withers and owner Denise, right, says young children often mistake him for a horse

No bowl: Zeus serves himself some water from the tap at the Doorlag family home in Michigan

The World's Longest Cat Dies

RENO, Nevada -  Stewie the Cat, the longest domestic cat in the world at more than 4 feet long from nose to tail, has died.

Stewie was surrounded by family when he succumbed to a yearlong battle with cancer Monday evening at his Reno home, owner Robin Hendrickson said Tuesday. He was 8.

Guinness World Records declared Stewie the record-holder in August 2010, measuring 48.5 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.

Hundreds of fans flooded Stewie's Facebook site with memories and condolences Tuesday. The Maine Coon cat was a certified therapy animal that frequently visited a Reno senior center and helped promote animal welfare awareness with the Nevada Humane Society.

"Stewie was always very social and loved meeting new people," Hendrickson said. "He has touched many lives, and for that I am grateful."

Stewie's full name was Mymains Stewart Gilligan. Hendrickson bought him from a breeder in Hermiston, Ore., in 2005. Last month, he attended the International Cat Show in Portland, Ore.

"He did really well at the show, even though he wasn't feeling totally perfect," said Valerie Horton, the show's entry clerk. "He loved being there because he loved the public. He always did."

Officials for Guinness World Records did not immediately respond to inquiries about a successor to Stewie's record. The previous record-holder, Leo, a 48-inch-long Maine Coon owned by Frieda Ireland of Chicago, died several years ago.

Stewie was diagnosed in early 2012 with Lymphosarcoma, a malignant disease of the lymphoid tissues. He responded successfully to chemotherapy and was declared cancer-free, but the remission period was brief and a vet recently found another, more aggressive tumor on his kidneys, Hendrickson said.

"I knew that although we could fight it, the end was near and so I wanted to simply make him comfortable and let him enjoy the time he did have," she said.
