Trumpet the bloodhound wins best in show at 2022 Westminster Kennel Club dog show

Trumpet, a soulful-looking bloodhound with low-hanging ears and deep folds, won best in show at the 2022 Westminster Kennel Club dog show.

Trumpet’s victory sounded a clarion call of sorts for his breed Wednesday — the dog made history with his best in show win.

Bloodhounds have been competing at the long-running dog show since the 1800s, but Trumpet is the first bloodhound to take best in show.

The 4-year-old dog from Saint Joseph, Illinois — registered name GCHB CH Flessner’s Toot My Own Horn — won the hound group Tuesday alongside his handler-owner Heather Helmer to advance to the final. The dog is co-owned by Chris and Bryan Flessner and Tina Kocar.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office Needs Your Help in Naming Their Adorable New K9, A Four-Month-Old Female Bloodhound Puppy - Contest Ends March 29

Westminster, MD - An adorable new K9 puppy at the Carroll County Sheriff's Office needs your help: She doesn't have a name yet!

The four-month-old bloodhound puppy is set to be much more than merely adorable, of course. She's slated to undergo 10 weeks of training with the Maryland State Police, after which she'll also be highly skilled.

The puppy will learn how to search for missing people, criminals who have tried to evade police, and escaped inmates. She'll also be able to help investigators develop leads in criminal cases.

But she still doesn't have a name, and that's where you come in. The Sheriff's Office is asking people to send their suggestions to ccsopuppycontest@gmail.com. In your message, include a history of the name or the reason why you're suggesting it.

The Sheriff's Office is accepting ideas through email only, so hold off on any social media submissions.

You have through March 29 to submit name suggestions. A decision on the name will be made no later than April 2nd, and will be announced via social media.

National Dog Show 2014 Results: Nathan the Bloodhound Wins Best in Show

Picture of dog getting award at dog show
It was a very jowly Thanksgiving, as Nathan the Bloodhound took home Best In Show at the National Dog Show.

Nathan licked pretty much everybody possible, including NBC's Mary Carillo. He had won Best in Group at the Westminster Dog Show, but hadn't taken the top prize. He's a rare winner from the popular breed, as the bloodhound had never won at the National Dog Show and still has yet to win in the 100-plus years of Westminster.

The winners of each group were:

Hound group: Bloodhound

Herding group: Bearded collie

Working group: Samoyed

Terrier group: Smooth fox terrier

Toy group: Affenpinscher

Sporting group: Gordon setter

Non-sporting breeds: French bulldog

For the most part the dog show went off without a hitch ... except for the one part where a miniature pinscher got away from its handler and made a run for it. We've never seen that one before, and the handler did not exactly handle it well. FOLLOW US!
