Manlius, New York - The man accused of punching a disabled
Army veteran in the face Monday morning at a Fayetteville Dunkin Donuts turned
himself in to police after his co-workers told him they saw his picture on the
news, according to the Manlius Police Department.
Dominick Vidal, 21, of Syracuse, turned himself into police
at 6 p.m. yesterday "to claim responsibility for his actions" after
surveillance photos were released to the public hours after the alleged
incident took place.
The incident with the veteran happened around 11:15 a.m.
Monday when Manlius Police responded to a fight at the Dunkin Donuts on East
Genesee Street. Police say the disabled veteran and his service dog were at the
counter when a man confronted him about an issue regarding the dog.
Police say Vidal told them he became angry with the victim
and punched him twice in the face after he told his daughter she could not pet
his dog since it was a service animal.
He fled the scene shortly after.
The veteran was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
He reportedly told police he overreacted and "should
not have done what he did."
The 21-year-old is charged with third-degree assault and
endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Fayetteville
Court on Jan. 12.
