Jacksonville Beach, Fla. - When Tia Early adopted Bella, a lab mix from the Jacksonville Humane Society, she had no idea how Bella would help he son, Nick.

"I didn't realize how much Bella would take to us, and how much Bella would bring him out," she says.

Early is talking about her son, Nick.

"When we got Bella he said 'Oh mama I have a best friend'," says Early with a smile.

Best friends is an understatement, Bella and Nick are two peas in a pod!

"She has brought independence to him because he is learning to walk her and she is teaching him responsibility," explains Early.

Their bond is deepening every day. Nick has down syndrome and Bella is starting to pick up on when he is feeling ill.

"She (Bella) kept going into his room and she had never done that before and little did I know the next day, he came home from school sick with a stomach bug. So she knew he was getting sick," says Early.

Nick has recently started having some cardiac issues and needing oxygen at night.

"I'm hoping and I am thinking she will alert us to any things going on with him," tells Early.

When Bella looks at Nick, you can see the unconditional love because Bella doesn't judge, she just loves! So to Nick she will always be one thing.
