Dog Dragged and Painted Purple

A young dog in Houston, Texas, is recuperating after someone painted him purple and dragged him, causing severe injuries to the both rear paws. According to Friday's Click 2 Houston News, the 10-month-old pup, dubbed "Grape Barkley," was initially picked up by BARC animal control officers, but the rescue agency, Lone Star Shih Tzu & Lhasa Apso Rescue, quickly took him under their wing.

On Sunday, the rescue agency introduced their Facebook followers to the injured pup:

Little Grape Barkley came to us from BARC, our city shelter, after he was turned in as a stray with both feet degloved and covered with some sort of purple spray.

The organization described Grape Barkley's injuries from the suspected dragging incident:

X-rays revealed that the left foot was missing the toes - they had been "scrubbed" off and were hanging by little pieces of skin. On the right foot, the skin was pulled off the top of the foot, but the toes were intact. One toe is badly injured and he may lose that but so far so good.

A wash and trim eliminated most of the purple paint, but it will take weeks for the injuries to Grape's paws to heal. Funds to help the young dog receive all of the veterinary care that he needs to recover have been pouring in - according to the PetCaring fundraising page established for Grape Barkley, over $7000 has been raised so far.

Nobody knows who Grape previously belonged to, or who is responsible for the injuries that he sustained.
