Elderly Woman Attacked by Beagle, Hound and Labrador Retriever

According to Monday's WLOS News, an elderly woman in Etowah, North Carolina, was severely injured after three dogs escaped from their yard and mauled her while she was gardening on Friday morning.

The attack, by a beagle, hound and Labrador retriever, left 79-year-old Lavada Reese with serious injuries which required her to be admitted to the hospital. Captain Steve Carter with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office described what happened:

"The dogs drug her approximately 12 to 15 feet in distance, there wasn’t a lot she could do, she couldn’t get to her phone, and she crawled to her house and called her brother to pick her up and take her to the hospital, very courageous lady it’s so unfortunate it happened.”

According to WYFF News, the dogs, who had escaped from their owner's yard which was surrounded by an invisible fence, were taken to the Henderson County Animal Shelter to be held for a mandatory 10-day quarantine; the dogs' owner was not home at the time of the attack.

The dogs are expected to be returned to their owner; no criminal charges have been issued, but the incident remains under investigation.
